superfoods-1024x683 Food Quality NOT Counting Calories is Key to Longterm Weight Loss

Anyone who has been on a “diet” knows the typical advice for weight loss is to reduce the overall amount of calories consumed and start exercising.

But a new study published in JAMA has shown that people who cut back on added sugar, refined grains and highly processed foods while focusing on eating plenty of vegetables and whole foods and NOT worrying about counting calories or limiting portion sizes lost significant amounts of weight over the course of a year.

Whaaatt? Yes you heard that right! When you quit processed food, sugar, and refined grains you will lose significant amounts of weight over the course of a year and you don’t ever have to count calories! Yup! Its true!

This simply means that people should stop obsessing over calories, detoxes, and trendy diets with “rules” and focus more on their overall diet QUALITY for long term weight loss. (aka- quit the junk and fake food!)

Is this really new information to anybody?

The study suggests that health authorities should shift away from telling the public to obsess over calories and instead encourage Americans to avoid processed foods that are made with refined starches and added sugar, like bagels, white bread, refined flour and sugary snacks and beverages, said Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, a cardiologist and dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy at Tufts University.

The best way to go about it is to ditch fake, fast, processed, packaged, sugar loaded foods. Next, focus on filling your plate with mostly vegetables, clean meat or wild fish, and healthy fats. (This goes for kids to!)

Eat a REAL food diet made up of____

  • Healthy fats/oils,
  • Animal protein (from grass fed beef ,wild fish, pastured poultry),
  • ALOT of non-starchy vegetables (wild plant intake and greens), and a little starchy too (squash, sweet potato)
  • Nuts, seeds,(Preferably raw and soaked or sprouted), nut-butters
  • Organic spices/herbs
  • Fermented vegetables
  • Fruit (preferably organic)
  • Unpasteurized REAL raw dairy
  • Eggs from pastured chickens able to roam outdoors and peck and forage

When you eat this way, Your body becomes very efficient! Your body will actually go into fat burning mode and you will continue to use and burn the right calories all day and night!

Your appetite will decrease and your metabolism will increase. It is also very difficult to over eat REAL food. (Usually late night food cravings are for junk, not broccolli!)

Having your body working for you efficiently takes the work off of you!

When you give your body REAL food vs. fake it knows what to do with it and gets to work. Cravings decrease. You will maintain good health and will not store excess fat. On the other hand fake food (processed/packaged) wreaks havoc on most all systems of the body and causes chaos in normal functions of digestion, absorption and assimilation leading to weight gain and chronic disease.

Should you go keto? Should you go vegan? Should you go paleo? Every single person has to follow a diet this is unique to them. Choose foods that are nutrient dense and digestible and eat a wide variety of REAL food and micronutrients.

This new study proves that focusing on food quality, not calories, will help in losing substantial amounts of weight.

Be Well! 🙂
