thumbs-up-thumbs-down-300x228 Healthy vs. Harmful FATS and why you NEED to Know the Difference!

Most people are STILL eating far to many carbs and sugar and not enough FAT.  Why ? Because we have been taught for years by conventional weight loss advice that counting calories, eating low fat, and exercising are the answer to lose weight and stay healthy.

GUESS WHAT?   CONVENTIONAL WEIGHT LOSS ADVICE IS WRONG. ALL WRONG! This misguided advice has been a driving force in our obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer epidemics. If you want to lose weight and regain your health you need to retrain your thinking about food and FAT.

Eating Fat Does NOT make you fat! Studies show high-fat, low carbohydrate diets are in fact SUPERIOR to low-fat, high carb diets for weight loss.  Switch your thinking from the 100 calorie fat free snack pack of pretzels and instead slice an apple in half and plop on 2 big Tablespoons of almond butter.

What are healthy fats and how much should we be eating?

To effectively burn body fat you need anywhere from 50-85% of your daly calories to come from beneficial monounsaturated and saturated fats. PLUS you need to significantly DECREASE your carbohydrate intake especially those coming from processed foods and refined sugar. Diets such as Paleo and Keto can help you better understand this.

Healthy Fats Include

Olives and Olive oil (make sure it’s  certified and pure) Coconuts and coconut oil (excellent for cooking as it can withstand higher temperatures without oxidizing) Butter made from raw grass-fed organic milk
Raw nuts, such as macadamia and pecans Seeds like black sesame, cumin, pumpkin and hemp seeds Avocados
Grass fed meats Lard and tallow (excellent for cooking) Ghee (clarified butter)
Raw cacao butter Organic pastured egg yolks Animal-based omega-3 fat such as krill oil and small fatty fish like sardines and anchovies

PROBLEMATIC FATS Include

Corn, Soybean, Canola, Safflower, and Sunflower oils. AVOID THESE!!!

  • Manmade
  • Contribute to heart disease
  • Trans fats
  • Highly refined polyunsaturated
  • Driving force in our obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer epidemics.

These oils also promote gut inflammation, disrupt blood flow through arteries in your brain and deplete its antioxidants which can impair brain development. If you or grandma is still cooking with these oils its time to make the switch! Need more convincing? Check this out!

Switching what you have been led to believe for years about fat may be the key factor in regaining your health and maintaining wellness !
