Butter is back and its best to use instead of margarine. Margarine is processed chock full of artery-clogging trans fat and a disaster for health. But what about Ghee? Have you tried it?
I Love ghee and often alternate between butter and ghee in my cooking. Ghee is an healthy alternative to butter if your looking for one and also just a great healthy fat to add into your diet!
What is Ghee?
Ghee is a clarified (purified) version of butter. Heat removes most of the casein and lactose so its much easier to stomach for those sensitive to dairy. It also offers butyrate, a fatty acid that may aid in digestion.
Ghee has vitamins A and E and it also contains conjugated linoleic acid. This powerful fatty acid primarily found in beef and raw dairy products has been linked to long-term weight management and optimal health. CLA may also protect against colorectal and breast cancers.
Butter sure has a classic taste that can’t be beat in cookies or on toast. Ghee has a slightly nuttier flavor with a higher smoke pointe and is better for frying or sautéing.
A great way to try ghee is to roast some veggies up in the oven coated with ghee and sea salt. Some of my favorites are brussel sprouts, zucchini, or carrots.
So next time your at the store reach for a jar of ghee and try it! Let me know what you think!
Be Well,
