Typical health advice states that “slow burning carbohydrate” grain foods such as whole grain bread, brown rice, wheat crackers, pasta, etc are widely viewed as better “healthier” options – This message is confusing and can ultimately make someone feel that as long as they choose wheat or whole grain over white bread they are making a healthy swap. The missing information is that whatever the grain your body will still ultimately have to produce a requisite amount of insulin to deal with every gram of glucose generated by these ingested carbohydrates.

Ultimately these more complex slow burning carbohydrate grain foods are like a steady insulin drip all day long. Because of this you apply chronic stress to your metabolic system and inhibit fat metabolism.

Sugar (glucose) in the form of a bag of skittles or a piece of 100% whole wheat bread both can be problematic. While one will give you a quick spike of insulin the other will give you a slow insulin drip all day. You’re still getting excess insulin that can lead to chronic inflammation and many health problems.
