GUESS WHAT? I’m going to let you in on a little secret…. YOU DON’T NEED CHEMICALS TO KEEP YOUR HOUSE CLEAN!
Chemicals are harmful to our health all around. We are bombarded already in our air, food, and water and this is negatively impacting our health and our environment. You CAN control what you are using at home, so why not? Limiting chemicals in your home improves the overall health of the whole family!
We assume they are safe but in fact many common household cleaners are dangerously toxic. Ingredients in common household products have been linked to asthma, cancer, reproductive disorders, hormone disruption and neurotoxicity.
When we’re exposed to them routinely, and in combinations that haven’t been studied (using multiple cleaners), we are creating a chemical storm in our home environment.
The good news is there are MANY ways to keep your home clean and fresh NATURALLY. Here are a few ways to get you started;
REMOVE YOUR SHOES AT THE DOOR
Create a spot at your most common entry way for people to put their shoes. Use a mat and a nice “please remove shoes” sign to emphasize this. I have found most people don’t mind at all removing their shoes they just don’t know to right away unless you tell them! 85% of household dirt comes in on your feet but you also track in residues from pesticides even lead. Even if you just have the common people coming in and out of your home everyday remove their shoes it has a huge impact!
USE AN ECO-FRIENDLY ALL PURPOSE CLEANER
Today’s natural products are just as effective as the common chemically loaded ones. Look for products that don’t contain hash cleansers like chlorine bleach, parabens, phthalates, and petrochemicals, and that tell you they’re NONTOXIC, BIODEGRADABLE, AND NATURALLY DERIVED.
DITCH THE AIR FRESHENERS
Air freshness disperse chemicals into the air. This includes sprays, plug ins, candles and even scented laundry products. Fragrance or perfume is a blanket term for what could be over thousands of chemicals. FRAGRANCE = an unidentified mixture of carcinogens, allergens, respiratory irritants, endocrine disruptors, neurotoxic chemicals, and environmental intoxicants. Instead of using these try making your own air freshener from water and essential oils or simply simmer cinnamon, cloves and/or other herbs on your stove. You would be surprised how pleasant the aroma is and because its natural it stays and infuses the whole house! Also don’t forget to simply open the windows and let fresh air do its job!
GET AN AIR CLEANING HOUSE PLANT
Certain house plants remove pollution from indoor air.
The top plants for air-cleaning are:
- Areca palm
- Reed palm
- Dwarf date palm
- Boston fern
- Janet Craig dracaena
- English ivy
- Australian sword fern
- Peace Lily
- Rubber plant
- Weeping fig
DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS DAILY
Diffusion helps with deodorizing and cleaning the air. Diffusing essential oils combats mold microorganisms, decreases the toxicity of chemicals and increases atmospheric oxygen. They do all of this while leaving your home smelling great! Diffuse purification, lavender, lemon, tea tree, cinnamon, and clove. Here are my favorite essential oils and diffuser I use in my home!
Detoxing your home and going green indoors can make a significant impact on the health of the entire family! So what are you waiting for?!!
Be Well 🙂
