Organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, and genetically modified organisms.

It seems like everything these days is ORGANIC!  I was just at a friends house and she put out “organic” Triscuit crackers and cheese.  They must be healthy right? They’re not regular Triscuits they are Organic!!!

Here lies the trap so many are falling for.

Organic labeling has gone to far.  Its confusing and ultimately hurting our wallets and health because consumers are buying the organic brands over the original yet NEITHER were healthy to begin with! We feel better buying the organic version but its actually not any healthier or better for you.

For you the consumer its so important to remember that REAL food does not come in a box! Understandably we can’t all eat fresh grown food straight from the garden year round some things have to be supplemented.  But BE CAREFUL!

Here is where food companies are tricking you! Yes, its healthier to buy an organic brand cracker over the original in the case of Triscuits because there would be less chemicals and no GMO’s. The reality is Triscuits are STILL A PROCESSED FOOD- ORGANIC OR NOT!  Same goes for organic cookies, packaged snacks, and cereals.

Organic may make you feel better about buying it but all in all PACKAGED FOOD is PACKAGED FOOD! Its processed, stripped of nutrients, and ultimately not that great for your health.  Taking a stroll down the snack section at Whole Foods many if not most of those organic snacks are still processed food loaded up with excess sugar, salt, damaging oils, even MSG (monosodium glutamate is a flavor enhancing food additive that when consumed can have side effects).  Don’t even get me started on all the “gluten free” products!

So what the heck are we supposed to do? Can we even trust anything anymore? 

Yes, we can! First and foremost just remember this -> J.E.R.F.! JUST EAT REAL FOOD and Cook! If you make most of your food choices with this in mind you won’t even need to navigate boxes or snack foods.  Keep any and all snack foods to a minimum in your diet and pick and choose the right kinds!

YOU CAN find Organic healthier REAL FOOD snacks at Whole Foods, Better Health, and many small local health food stores in your area but you NEED TO READ LABELS!

  • Bubba’s brand snack mix
  • Jackson’s honest Chips
  • Justins almond butter packs
  • Go Raw flax crackers
  • Simple Mills crackers and baking mixes
  • Birch Benders Paleo pancake mix
  • Buddha bowl popcorn
  • Siete tortilla chips

I am sure there are more but these are just a few I often buy.

Organic labeling has four distinct variations

  1. 100% Organic
  2. Organic
  3. Made with organic …
  4. Specific organic ingredients such as product contains organic oats

There are quite a few in-depth rules of organic labeling that I am not going to get into but the point is that processed food is processed food.  It may make you feel better because you have bought the “organic” kind but is it any better?

Start to get in the habit of reading INGREDIENTS ! This will give you the most precise info of what is actually in the product.
