Today was a very welcomed snow day for my kids (and me to!). The Detroit area was hit with a huge snowstorm that made it almost impossible to leave the driveway. But with all that snow the kids had a blast playing in it like kids do!
Beginning bright and early at 7:30am my kids went outside to tackle all the snowdrifts and discover all that had fallen the night before. After an hour they slowly started to trickle back inside with the ever familiar…..
“Mom can we have some hot chocolate?”
Typical hot cocoa mix is a scary concoction of preservatives, processed sugar or corn syrup, trans fats, and chemicals made to taste like chocolate. YUCK! I surely won’t drink it and I don’t want my kids to either. Considering how much they ask for it in the winter homemade hot cocoa is just as easy and very nutritious!
My version looks like this…
Homemade HOT COCOA
4 cups raw grass fed organic milk
stevia to sweeten
Warm milk on stove stirring slowly to melt and mix in cocoa….add in 100% stevia liquid drops or 2-3 packets to sweeten(serves 3-4). YUM! Enjoy this healthy goodness!!
So back to the snow day….. after some playing inside and warming up, my kids went on another afternoon adventure in the snow. This time they lasted much longer and I knew they would come in needing something replenishing, nourishing, and WARM to keep them all happy! This round I made my version of nutritious warm creamy chai tea and YES it hit the spot! I had some to!
WARM CREAMY CHAI TEA
Tulsi Masala Chai tea
Coconut oil (super duper healthy fat!)
Raw organic grass fed cream (another healthy fat full of vitamins, calcium, and protein)
Stevia (safe natural sweetener)
A quick not on Tulsi tea- TULSI (also known as Holy Basil) is considered “The Queen of Herbs” and is revered as a sacred plant infused with healing power. Tulsi’s life-enhancing qualities are noted repeatedly in ancient Indian scriptures dating back 5,000 years! It offers a spicy delicious taste to this tea!
Bring 1 cup of water to boil and using a tea basket steep 1 heaping tsp loose tea for 5 minutes. Remove tea and add in 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1-2 Tablespoons cream, and 1 stevia packet to sweeten.
Sip slowly and enjoy! Warm, nutritious, replenishing goodness for you and the kiddos you can feel good about!
This snow day 2015 was a fun one, that’s for sure!!!! Be Well 🙂 Susie R.
