The way I describe REAL fitness is really doing any type of physical activity you love and can stick to on a daily basis. I am an advocate of getting exercise every day in a way that you enjoy.
Some things to consider are:
- What is your reason for exercising? Preventative medicine, physical therapy to recover from
an injury, weight loss, strength, muscle growth, or just pleasure?
- What do you need from your workouts? Intensity? Challenge? Variety? Relaxation and
stress relief? Motivation?
Primal exercise and HIIT (high intensity interval training) are proving to be the REAL winners for improving your cardiovascular fitness, fat-burning capabilities, and overall health.
The most effective workout I have found that has given me amazing energy, muscular definition, decreased body fat, and a mental challenge is HIIT or high intensity interval training, specifically SYPHUS TRAINING. This is my FAVORITE Primal functional fitness workout!
What is Syphus training? Founder and gym owner Mike Hackett describes it as a genre of fitness that combines body-weight exercises with competition, infusing it with a sport-like atmosphere for the fitness enthusiast.

If I am not at the Syphus gym you will find me outside running. Not for time, not for miles, but just for fun. I like to get outside and see how far I can go!
My other favorite fine tuning workouts are vinyasa yoga, pilates, and barre. As a former dancer these workouts have fit the mold for me to reconnect to my dancing body and core strength.
These workouts create lean, defined, flexible yet STRONG muscles.
